About Us
Ambidextrous Bloodhound Press is a nonprofit (501(c)(3) literary publisher. We publish six online and print journals, along with occasional books and anthologies, and we make nearly all of our work free to read. Net proceeds for what we do sell (first frost, books, chapbooks) go to charities.
We have been at this since 2004, when Right Hand Pointing published its first issue. What began as one small journal has grown into a family of publications, each built around a form or a subject: the very short poem, the one-sentence poem, the prose poem, haiku and senryu, found poetry, and poetry that reckons with moral injury.
What We're About
We publish what we love, and we give most of it away. Our online journals are free to read, with no paywalls and no subscriptions. We charge nothing to submit and nothing to publish. Our editors are volunteers who read submissions because they want to see the work.
We publish widely. We read submissions from anyone, anywhere. Many of our contributors are established writers; many are publishing for the first time. We do not track which is which when we read.
We think poetry does real work in the world. For example, The Scarred Tree was founded on the conviction that poetry can speak to moral injury — the wound that comes from doing, witnessing, or failing to prevent what violates one's deepest sense of right. Our 2025 grief anthology grew from the same conviction.
Ambidextrous Bloodhound Press is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of the State of Alabama. Our IRS determination letter and exemption application are posted on our Nonprofit Documents page. Contributions to the Press are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
