About Us

Ambidextrous Bloodhound Press is a nonprofit (501(c)(3) literary publisher. Our IRS determination letter and exemption application are posted on our Nonprofit Documents page. We donate all net proceeds to charity. Contributions to the press are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.  Donate and support us here. We'd be grateful.

We publish six online and print journals, along with occasional books and anthologies, and we make nearly all of our work free to read. Net proceeds from what we sell (first frost, books, chapbooks) go to charities. We accept donations. Board members are not compensated, and donations increase our net proceeds, which then go to charities.

We have been at this since 2004, when right hand pointing published its first issue. (We were founded the same year as Facebook.) What began as one small journal has grown into a family of publications. Some might say sister publications. We say two of the six are sisters. Another is a second cousin. One is an uncle with a drinking problem. Then one is Mom and her new husband who, frankly, we're not crazy about.

One Sentence Poems Self-explanatory, but... okay,  it is for poems of exactly one sentence. Three issues per year.

first frost A premium print journal, twice a year. Haiku and senryu.

Unbroken A quarterly journal of prose poetry.

Unlost Found poetry and art. Twice a year. (Does "biannual" mean twice a year or once every two years?)

The Scarred Tree: Poetry on Moral Injury. We publish one poem at a time on a rolling basis.

Our editors are volunteers. We are grateful. They are not compensated, of course. We do offer a dental insurance plan which we strongly advise against using. Our current plan dentist,  Burl McCleckly III, D.D.S., J.D., is also our staff attorney. He has a dental/legal office in Cushing, Oklahoma. (It's in a former KFC restaurant which is in the early stages of being renovated.) He is on probation, but we're not allowed to say more than that, such as whether he's on probation by the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry, the Oklahoma Bar Association, or the criminal courts. Or some combination of those. Honestly, we ARE allowed to say which but we don't really want to know.
